Went to the wedding of my great friends Stuart and Nick today. They met when we started dating 8 years ago. After Max was born they adopted 2 gorgeous twins Claire and Kyle and they are all a part of our family and on our eternal “short list”. (These are the inner circle folk who may never escape the Purdy love- no matter what.) Well, thanks to current (under threat) legislation they got hitched today and we were touched, honored and blessed to be included. I got asked to do a reading despite the fact that they are both well aware of my “leaky” problem. I’m a cryer. A public, ungraceful, snot-propelling cryer… they knew this, and still they asked me to read an amazing piece… I got through it only because their reverend stood behind me with a loving hand on my shoulder and a Godly grin on his face…
The dude totally rules.
Their church, obviously, is very progressive and they have gone to the mat for it. I want to attend now. It makes me think about prop 8. I cruise around and I’ll see these signs on the lawn for McCain/Palin and “Yes on 8” and I immediately think “why not just put a car on blocks, a lawn jockey and a confederate flag up there while you’re at it…” I mean- maybe in the “fly-over” states but in California… seriously? The denial is specific, brazen and frightening…
Back to my beautiful boys and their day- it was perfect and glorious and I’m so blessed that my kids can experience a world where a church FULL of people just came to support love- regardless of form, shape or gender. They don’t know about my recent “boob issue” because I don’t want to taint any celebration or their honeymoon. I’ll tell them but hopefully- it may be after the surgery.
Congrats my loves.
